The Homeschool Room is excited to have Tina Steele Penn, a popular local art
teacher, teaching two art classes on Fridays starting in September.

She is offering a one hour class for younger students, and a one and a half
hour class for 10-14 year olds as follows:

-Fridays: 1:00- 2:00 pm (one hour class) Young Artist ages 6-9 $50.00 a
month and all supplies are included

-Fridays: 2:15-3:45 pm (one and a half hour class) Young Artist ages 10-14
$60.00 a month and all supplies are included

No previous art classes or experience required.

Classes are structured in 4 weekly sessions.

-The first week is always drawing, and developing the ability to see, assess
the subject, and then represent the subject in a pencil drawing. Drawing
techniques, composition, tonal values, are all part of the first week.

-The remaining three weeks follow with painting in first watercolor and then
acrylic, developing a thorough understanding of the subject matter explored
in the pencil drawing session. I.e. figure drawing, perspective, landscape
techniques, shading, etc.

-Always taught in a non-judgmental, age appropriate environment, to
stimulate creative exploration.

Upcoming plans:

September's classes... We will begin with learning to visualize mountains.
How different mountainous areas appear to the eye, and how to represent
these in pencil effects, to get a realistic interpretation of the hard and
soft textures seen when viewing mountains. Then in the following week we
will explore painting and brush techniques relating to painting the these
textures.

October's classes... In October we will explore various shapes, and how to
represent them in drawing and painting that renders them "off the page".
Developing techniques for shading, using tonal values in any object to give
it depth and reality. There are more exciting classes planned for November
and December to finish out the session. To see her artwork visit
