Please provide feedback regarding the Bost Grist Millfield trip. I am
looking at a Friday... Does October 17th look good to everyone? Is
there another conflict on that date? If so I will be happy to switch
to another time.
Bost Grist Mill is an original working mill dating back to the early
1800's. The mill is restored and does education tours explaining how
food was farmed and processed during the early days.
Children will get hands on opportunities to shell an ear of corn in
the original way, and see how corn becomes cornmeal. Please see the
web site for more detailed information about this interesting
historical site.
We would hope to set up a tour around 10:00.. on a Friday.
Cost depends on how many people attend. I am hoping for 20
participants. 1-10 10.00 each
11-15 9.00
16-24 8.00
25-50 7.00
51 -up 6.00
All people participating in the tour pay. This is because it is open
by appointment only and they have a need to pay the staff and costs
of opening.
There is also offered a class on making a corn husk doll for 3.00 per
child.
There are picnic areas so weather permitting we would pack a picnic
lunch.

> What better way to learn about the voting process than to walk through it? We will hold a MOCK ELECTION for all area
homeschooling families on WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 29, 2008. This mock election will include offices at the national, state and
local levels. Students will register to vote, listen to campaign speeches, vote and then wait on the results. All students wishing to
vote will be required to bring a piece of personal artwork showing any symbol, person, document, monument, or animal that
represents America. All artwork will be displayed on the "Symbols of Democracy" wall. A sample ballot will be given when you
register to vote.
>
> In addition to voting, students can also choose to participate in two other activities:
>
> PUBLIC SPEAKING - Students are invited to prepare and give a two minute speech during the general assembly. Students may
choose to represent a candidate on the ballot, to represent a political party's platform, or to speak as an historic political figure.
All participants in this public speaking opportunity are encouraged to dress appropriately, either "dress/business attire" or
"period clothing" for the historical figure.
>
> SERVE THE COMMUNITY - Students age 10 or older may volunteer to be an election official. Officials will be needed to issue
Voter Registration Cards, administer ballots, or count ballots. We will need about 16 election officials.
>
> We will enjoy a POTLUCK LUNCH before the polls open for voting. All families are asked to bring a main dish, a side dish (or
dessert) and a drink to share. Paper products will be provided.
