TEENS SUMMER CLAYTIME Six-week class meeting one time per week   Ages -                 12+ years Wednesday -     5:00 - 7:00 PM Dates -                June 17 through July 29, 2009                                          (No class on Wednesday, July 15) Cost -                  $100.00   Mud Slingers Pottery & Glass Studio has a specially designed class for teenagers.    Gretchen Hogan will guide students through a variety of processes of manipulating, forming and molding clay vessels and sculptural figures. Students will have a blast creating their own unique bowls, pots, animal figures, beads, or anything else they can imagine! The workshop will also develop connections between clay and nature by using nature as inspiration for ceramic forms.   Handbuilding, pinching, coiling, and sculpting will be explored, with plenty of room for guided exploration within the student's individual interest.  Exploration of various methods of using glaze and colorants as well as the process of glazing and firing the clay will be included in this class.  All pottery and glaze used at Mud Slingers is food safe.   Students will also observe a demonstration on the wheel by a studio member.  All clay, tools and materials will be provided.   Plan to come to this class and have a fun time exploring your ventures with clay!  Projects will be glazed on the last day of class.  Pottery will be fired and ready for pick up within two weeks.      <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><> Mud Slingers Pottery & Glass Studio 9 Union Street N Suite 150 Concord, NC  28025 704-796-1600 Master and VISA Cards accepted    Mud Slingers is located in the Paramount Building across from Hotel Concord on Union Street.  Look for the red canopy - go under the canopy through the double doors.  We are in the back of the building. 4-H Summer Fling is a special program sponsored by the North Carolina Cooperative Extension – Cabarrus County Center‟s 4-H Program. Most activities will be held at the Cabarrus County Center, 715 Cabarrus Avenue West, Concord. TO REGISTER *You may register for a 4-H Summer Fling session ONLINE at www.cabarruscounty4H.com under the link “4-H Summer Fling Registration” or go to http://www.cabarruscounty.us/ReservePartner Payment will be accepted online with a credit or debit card. This is the preferred method of registration. *You may also register IN PERSON at the Cooperative Extension Office, 715 Cabarrus Avenue West, Concord. *Registration will continue throughout the summer, although sessions do have registration deadlines of seven days prior to the session. *Please register each child individually. *Each participant will need a completed 4-H Enrollment Form and Medical Release Form in order to participate. He likes to help kids know when it is OK to pet a dog. Dogs are like us, sometimes they don't want to be bothered! Spots teaches kids how to read dog body language. You will learn and have fun! 1515 $3 Minimum No. – 10   Mini Society Ages 9 – 12 June 29, July 1 & 2 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. In this innovative program, participants will establish their own society, design and print their own money, open their own businesses and create their own government. Participants will learn first hand about entrepreneurship and economics. This class is highly motivating and promotes problem solving, teamwork and creative thinking. Participants will need to bring a bag lunch each day. Drinks and snacks will be provided. 1503.02 $25 Minimum No. – 15   Back to Basics Ages 9 – 13 July 7 – 9 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Gardening, canning, sewing … come learn these basic skills with us! Cabarrus County Extension Agents and volunteers will teach skills such as these plus more. Activities may include a trip to a local farm, peach orchard, blackberry patch and dairy farm. Participants will learn how to prepare foods from a local garden and sew a simple project. Participants will need to bring a lunch and drink each day. Snacks will be provided. 1516 $60 Minimum No. – 10   Manners and More Ages 9 – 12 July 15 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.  Let‟s „do lunch‟ and put manners into action. This class will meet in the private dining room of Union Street Bistro, 48 Union Street, South, Concord. We will review manners, how to make introductions, table manners and ordering off a restaurant menu. Each person will order their choice of food. Luncheon cost, tax and gratuity are included in the fee. Be sure to „dress to impress‟ for this special event. 1520 $18 Minimum No. – 10   Christmas in July Ages 8 – 13 July 28 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Participants in this program will make Christmas crafts, cook a Christmas lunch, decorate cookies and play Christmas games. 1517 $18 Minimum No. – 10   Acres of Adventures Day Camp Ages 5 – 10 August 4 – 6 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. This will be a great camp to introduce young people to agriculture and life science. We will participate in fun-filled activities and experiments using hands-on learning. Activities will include games, play, arts and crafts, food and music. Back by popular demand!!!! We are offering Homeschool Swim Day again this summer. It will be every other Friday starting with the first Friday in June. Tri-Acres Swim Club is an outdoor pool on Weddington Road in Concord, NC. Hours for the Homeschool Swim Day are from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. The cost for non-members is $3.00 per person. There is a picnic shelter and tables. There is also a bathhouse with showers. The pool has a deep end with diving board, middle section from 3 ft. to 5 ft. and kiddie section 3 ft. and under. Bring your lunch and join us for swimming at the pool. Or you may purchase food and drink items at the concession stand. The address is 6240 Weddington Road in Concord. It is on Weddington Road very close to Pitts School Road. The concert’s program is “Dance Night” and includes toe-tapping symphonic hits such as Offenbach’s “Can-Can” and the classic swinging selection “Duke Ellington Fantasy.”   Admission and parking are free, and you’re welcome to pack a picnic basket or purchase food from the East Lincoln High School Band.
