Avian Antics - Homeschool Day Camp Campers will explore adaptations, habitat and wildlife conservation through hands on lessons, games and activities! IMPORTANT NOTE FOR BOYS/GIRLS CLUB OF CABARRUS COUNTY HOME SCHOOL ACTIVITIES FOR 2009-10 The Boys & Girls Club of Cabarrus County will be opening its doors to local home schoolers for the sixth straight school year. Starting September 17 the Club will host its monthly Home School Days program. The BG Club will wrap-up the program in May with its annual Field Day/Family Picnic! The program will be available to children 5-14 yrs. Old (must be 5 yrs. Before Oct. 16). Children will be divided into three groups based on their age and each group will rotate around the facility’s activity rooms over a two-hour time frame. Depending on the age group, activities may include phys. ed., arts & crafts, life skills, performing arts, academic activities, and game room activities. Cost is $4 per session or $20 for the full year. Home School Days will be held the third Thursday of every month from September through May, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. EXCEPT for March, when it will be held the 4th Thursday. ALL activities will be led by Boys & Girls Club staff, who will be assisted by select home school parents. Second-place winner receives a $3,000 award. Third-place winner receives $1,000. ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
  • Be a registered, active member of a Boy Scout Troop, Venturing Crew, or a Sea Scout Ship;
  • Has received the Eagle Scout Award, Venture Silver Award or Sea Scout Quartermaster Award;
  • Has demonstrated practical citizenship in school, scouting and the community;
  • Has reached his/her 15th birthday and is enrolled in high school at the time of selection; and
  • Has submitted his/her completed entry by March 1, 2010, to a VFW Post in his/her community.

    Tour Vulcan Materials Company, the Cabarrus Quarry located at: 7680 Poplar Tent Road Concord, NC 28027 Thursday, March 11, 2010 10:30am (tour will last approximatel 1.5-2 hours Scouts, look through your badge books, this fulfills a requirement or 2 What Does a Tour Include? Tours typically include a general presentation by a Vulcan representative before the group proceeds on the tour of the production facility. The general presentation includes information about Vulcan Materials Company, the use of minerals within society and particularly the role aggregates play in today's world. There is also a discussion of the mining process, how we produce aggregates, the regulatory and permitting requirements and reclamation efforts. A safety talk is also included that addresses the safety requirements for the specific tour and group of visitors.   Walking Tours: Walking tours may involve a combination of viewing operations from a vehicle as well as actually walking through certain portions of the facility in order to gain a more detailed understanding of the processes involved.
